(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The head of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has called on Muslim governments to cut ties with Israel and close the regime’s embassies in their capitals.
“The storming of the Zionist regime’s embassy in Cairo, in addition to its message for the US and Israel, had an important message for Muslim states: Islamic governments should sever relations with the Zionists before their peoples act and seize the (Israeli) embassies,” Alaeddin Boroujerdi told Fars New Agency on Sunday.
The attack on the Israeli Embassy in Cairo gave this message to the US and Israel that they have
no support in Egypt and the country has now turned into a revolutionary center demanding its own rights and those of the Muslim world, he said.
Egyptian youth stormed the Israeli mission on Friday night and destroyed parts of a barricade wall around the building, forcing the Israeli ambassador and his staff to flee. Egyptian police used tear gas to disperse the crowd.
Three people were killed in the overnight clashes between police and protesters, hospital sources said.
More than 1,000 people, including some 300 policemen, were also injured in the clashes that continued overnight.
A protester tore down the Israeli flag at the embassy, to the cheers of thousands of demonstrators on the scene. Intimidated by the Egyptians move, Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak called US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and urged Washington to help protect the Israeli mission in Cairo.
